Top-listed notorius terrorist of the country Subrata Bain alias Md Fateh Ali, 61, and three of his associates are on trail in an arms case filed with Hatirjheel Police Station. Judge Fahmida Jahangir of the Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-15 framed charges against the accused and fixed November 16 for recording witness testimonies. The other accused are Abu Russell Masud alias Molla Masud, M.A.S. Sharif and Arafat Ibne Nasir.
According to the chargesheet, Bain, once one of Bangladesh’s most wanted criminals, led the “Seven Star Group,” a notorious crime syndicate involved in murders, robberies and extortion in the early 2000s. The Home Ministry in 2001 listed him among 23 top terrorists and announced rewards for their capture.
Bain fled to India years ago but reportedly returned to Bangladesh and resumed criminal activities. On May 27, a special unit of the Bangladesh Army arrested Bain and Masud in Kushtia district. Acting on their information, police later arrested Sharif and Arafat from Dhaka’s Hatirjheel area. Law enforcers recovered five foreign-made pistols, 10 magazines, 53 rounds of ammunition and a satellite phone during the operation.
Following the seizure, SI Asaduzzaman of Hatirjheel Police filed the case under the Arms Act on May 28, 2025.
