Ex-president Abdul Hamid is under ACC investigation

Staff Reporter

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an inquiry into former President Abdul Hamid over allegations of abuse of power, financial irregularities and illegal wealth accumulation.

The ACC alleges that Hamid misused his authority during his tenure to secure personal benefits and caused an estimated Tk 24 crore in losses to the state through a beautification and decoration project in the Nikunja-1 residential area.

ACC Director General Akhter Hossain disclosed the information on Sunday at a press briefing held at the commission’s headquarters in Dhaka’s Segunbagicha.

According to ACC sources, the complaint claims that Hamid used his presidential authority for personal luxury and manipulated state funds under the guise of a beautification project in Nikunja-1.

The commission decided to initiate the inquiry on November 16 and subsequently formed a team to investigate the allegations.
