<![CDATA[Bangladeshi authorities have alerted immigration officials to prevent suspects from fleeing the country following the filing of a murder case nearly 29 years after the actor’s death.

Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Faruk confirmed on Saturday that a murder case has been filed against 11 individuals, including Salman Shah’s ex-wife Samira Haque, in compliance with a Dhaka court order. Several other accused are listed as "unknown" as the investigation continues.

“The investigation is underway,” Faruk said. “We’re using mobile tracking and other digital tools to locate the suspects within Bangladesh and tracing those believed to be abroad. Immigration checkposts have been notified to stop any accused from leaving the country.”

Salman Shah was found dead at his Eskaton residence in Dhaka on September 6, 1996, at the age of 26. While the original Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) report concluded he died by suicide, his family has long contested this, alleging foul play. His mother, Neela Chowdhury, has consistently claimed he was murdered.

The formal murder case was filed on October 21, 2025, with Alamgir Kumkum, the actor’s maternal uncle, acting as the complainant. The move follows years of public pressure and legal appeals for a fresh inquiry. The accuseds are including Samira Haque (former wife), businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Lucy, film actor Don and several others linked to the deceased.

Authorities said that forensic evidence, witness statements, and new leads have prompted them to treat the case as a potential homicide involving conspiracy. “We are committed to uncovering the truth,” OC Faruk added. “The suspects will be arrested soon and brought to justice under due process.”

The case has reignited national interest in one of Bangladesh’s most haunting celebrity mysteries. With investigations now active and suspects under surveillance, many hope that long-delayed answers—and accountability—may finally emerge.

<![CDATA[Police have recommended to drop the murder charge against actor Iresh Zaker and Ikram Moin Chowdhury, managing director of Forethought PR (a concern of Asiatic), in a case over the killing of BNP activist Mahfuz Alam Shraban in Dhaka’s Mirpur area. Mirpur Model Police Station Inspector Sajjad Roman, the investigation officer, submitted an interim investigation report to the court on October 9, sources at the Dhaka court confirmed on Thursday (October 23).

According to the report, investigators found no eyewitnesses or credible evidence placing Iresh Zaker or Ikram Moin Chowdhury at the crime scene around 2:30 pm on August 5, 2024. No still images or video footage showed their presence and no documentary or circumstantial proof linked them to the incident. The officer, therefore, recommended that they be temporarily released from the charges. The report adds that legal action would be taken if any new evidence emerges.

Earlier, on March 27, the victim’s brother, Mostafizur Rahman Bappy, filed the case over Shraban’s death. The court later directed Mirpur police to record it as a First Information Report (FIR), naming 407 accused, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The complaint alleged that on August 5, a BNP procession in Mirpur was attacked by ruling party activists on the accused’s instructions. The attackers reportedly fired bullets and rubber rounds and used tear gas, sound grenades and explosives, leaving Shraban fatally injured. He was declared dead after being taken to a local hospital.

The festival will be held from October 17 to 19 with the slogan "Manush Bhojle Sonar Manush Hobi (If you love people, you will become a worthy person).

The event will unite devotees, bauls, and musicians from across the country for a grand celebration of Lalon's life, music, and philosophy. In Cheuria, Kumarkhali, Kushtia - home to the revered Lalon Akhra, the festival will transform the shrine into a vibrant gathering of faith, music, and reflection since the Bengali Year of 1297 after the death of Lalon Shah.

From dawn to dusk, the grounds will resonate with bhaav-geeti, soulful baul performances, and philosophical discussions celebrating the Lalon's vision of spiritual freedom and human unity. The district administration has already made extensive preparations. The festival will be officially inaugurated on Friday evening by Cultural Affairs Ministry Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki.

However, Lalon devotees are happy that the Lalon Festival has been declared a national day. This year, Lalon Academy has organized the three-day Lalon Festival in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the district administration.

Already, Lalon followers, devotees and visitors from all over the country and abroad have started coming to Saiji's Dham to remember and have a glimpse of spiritual guru Fakir Lalon, to know the unknown, to accumulate knowledge, to purify and liberate the soul and to seek spiritual peace. They are happy to come with the saint and to serve him. A huge Lalon fair is being held on the banks of the Kali River in the Akhrabari premises amid stringent security measures.

The government on September 4 announced to observe October 17 every year as the death anniversary of Lalon Shah under "Ka" category national day, asking all concerned ministries, divisions and agencies to take necessary measures to ensure proper observance of the day.

<![CDATA[Entertainment Desk: After being released from jail on bail, Dhallywood actress Nusraat Faria described her arrest as the “darkest period” of her life.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Faria, who portrayed ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman biopic “Mujib: The Making of a Nation”, opened up about the emotional rollercoaster she endured following her arrest, the court proceedings, and eventual release on bail.

“I’ve just gone through the most traumatic two days of my life,” she wrote. “I was mentally devastated. However, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to those who stood by me during this time.”

Faria was released from Kashimpur Central Women’s Jail in Gazipur on Tuesday, two days after her arrest in an attempted murder case linked to an incident during the July Uprising.

Her arrest became a hot topic on social media, with many claiming that it was linked to her role in "Mujib: The Making of a Nation". Some netizens said she was being “unjustly harassed” under the guise of a criminal case. Even some advisors from the interim government were seen weighing in on the matter.

Expressing gratitude to those who stood by her, Faria wrote: “From my colleagues to everyone in the industry, and the countless ordinary people who spoke out for me, for justice, and stood by my side, I will remember your support and love for the rest of my life. If it weren’t for you, I might not have been able to return to you so soon.”

She also extended special thanks to journalists. “I especially want to thank members of the media. Your support meant the world to me. I will always remember your kindness toward me.”

On May 18, Faria was stopped by Immigration Police at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport ahead of her flight to Thailand. She was later placed under arrest in the attempted murder case filed with Vatara Police Station.

An individual named Enamul Haque filed a complaint at Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court, accusing 283 people, including actors Apu Biswas, Nipun Akhter, Ashna Habib Bhabna and Zayed Khan. The Vatara Police Station later recorded the complaint as a First Information Report (FIR) on Apr 29 on the court’s orders.

According to the case details, during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement protests on Jul 19 last year, protesters gathered in front of Vatara Police Station. There was gunfire during the demonstration and Enamul was shot in the leg. He later received treatment at a hospital.

However, during the hearing, Faria’s lawyer Farhan Mohammad Arav said that she was not in the country at the time of the alleged incident when the plaintiff was shot.
