Salman Shah case: Police is in high alert

Desk Report

Bangladeshi authorities have alerted immigration officials to prevent suspects from fleeing the country following the filing of a murder case nearly 29 years after the actor’s death.

Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Faruk confirmed on Saturday that a murder case has been filed against 11 individuals, including Salman Shah’s ex-wife Samira Haque, in compliance with a Dhaka court order. Several other accused are listed as "unknown" as the investigation continues.

“The investigation is underway,” Faruk said. “We’re using mobile tracking and other digital tools to locate the suspects within Bangladesh and tracing those believed to be abroad. Immigration checkposts have been notified to stop any accused from leaving the country.”

Salman Shah was found dead at his Eskaton residence in Dhaka on September 6, 1996, at the age of 26. While the original Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) report concluded he died by suicide, his family has long contested this, alleging foul play. His mother, Neela Chowdhury, has consistently claimed he was murdered.

The formal murder case was filed on October 21, 2025, with Alamgir Kumkum, the actor’s maternal uncle, acting as the complainant. The move follows years of public pressure and legal appeals for a fresh inquiry. The accuseds are including Samira Haque (former wife), businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Lucy, film actor Don and several others linked to the deceased.

Authorities said that forensic evidence, witness statements, and new leads have prompted them to treat the case as a potential homicide involving conspiracy. “We are committed to uncovering the truth,” OC Faruk added. “The suspects will be arrested soon and brought to justice under due process.”

The case has reignited national interest in one of Bangladesh’s most haunting celebrity mysteries. With investigations now active and suspects under surveillance, many hope that long-delayed answers—and accountability—may finally emerge.
