Begum Zia is now stable

Staff Reporter

BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s health condition remains stable, according to the party, as doctors prepare for another evaluation of her treatment plan.

The BNP media cell, quoting her personal physician and party Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, said a meeting of the medical board is scheduled for Monday night.

“Only after the board sits will we know if there has been any change in her condition,” the statement noted.

Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka since November 23, when she was admitted with severe breathing difficulties linked to a lung infection that later progressed to pneumonia.

The 79-year-old former prime minister is also battling several long-term health complications, including issues related to her liver and kidneys, arthritis, and diabetes.

A combined team of Bangladeshi and international specialists has been monitoring her condition closely.

Acting BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has been consulting regularly with both local and foreign experts about her treatment, while his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman has remained at the hospital and visited Khaleda Zia again on Monday afternoon.

Party insiders say arrangements are in place to move her abroad for advanced medical care should the doctors recommend it. However, BNP officials stressed that any decision regarding overseas treatment will depend solely on the medical board’s assessment of her current condition.
