Bangladesh calls on Pakistan to apologize for 1971 genocide

Staff Reporter

Bangladesh has formally urged Pakistan to offer an official apology for the atrocities committed during the 1971 Liberation War. The call was made alongside a request for both countries to address and resolve historical issues to foster better bilateral relations.

The statement was issued following a meeting on Sunday (August 24) between Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser, Md. Touhid Hossain, and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, in Dhaka.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions focused on strengthening cooperation based on mutual respect, understanding, and shared interests. Both sides engaged in open and constructive talks on a wide range of topics, including trade, investment, agriculture, education, health, energy, transportation, people-to-people exchanges, culture, tourism, and disaster management.

Bangladesh emphasized the importance of unlocking untapped potential in these areas and agreed on the need for consistent diplomatic engagement and sector-specific communication to move forward.
