Bangladesh has started relocating its embassy staff and citizens from Tehran over escalating security concerns amid the Iran-Israel conflict. Out of around 2,000 Bangladeshis residing in Iran, approximately 400 are in Tehran, Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
“We are particularly concerned about those currently in Tehran,” he said. “They are at risk of being affected by the attacks. We are actively working to ensure the safety of both our diplomats and the Bangladeshi nationals there.”
He confirmed that people in Tehran had been advised to relocate to safer areas, and a formal evacuation process is already under way.
According to the foreign secretary, around 100 Bangladeshi nationals have contacted the embassy and a ministry hotline expressing their willingness to be evacuated. In addition, around 40 embassy officials are also being moved.
