Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Sunday held a courtesy meeting with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman at his residence in Dhaka. The meeting lasted for over an hour, according to a statement from the party.
Dar was accompanied by Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Tariq Bajwa, Director General (South Asia and SAARC) of Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry Ilyas Mehmood Nizami, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider, Deputy High Commissioner Muhammad Wasif, and Political Counsellor Kamran Dangal.
From Jamaat, Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Assistant Secretary General and head of the party’s Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, and foreign affairs adviser to the Jamaat chief Professor Dr Mahmudul Hasan Chowdhury were present.
Following the meeting, Jamaat leader Abdullah Mohammad Taher told reporters that discussions focused on unity in the Muslim world, particularly on how Muslim countries could play a stronger role in halting Israeli aggression in Palestine. The two sides also exchanged views on the need for collective Muslim leadership and explored avenues for cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan as neighboring states.
During the meeting, Dar inquired about Shafiqur Rahman’s health and wished him a speedy recovery. The Jamaat chief expressed gratitude for the Pakistani minister’s courtesy call.
