LPG prices raised by Tk 53 to 1,306

Staff Reporter

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on Sunday announced a hike in LPG prices for January, raising the price of a 12kg cylinder by Tk 53. The new price list was announced at a press conference held at BERC building.

Under the revised rates, the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder has been increased to Tk 1,306 from the previous Tk 1,253. The price of autogas used in vehicles has also been raised. The new rate has been fixed at Tk 59.80 per litre, up by Tk 2.48 from the earlier price of Tk 57.32 per litre.

BERC said the new prices would come into effect from Sunday evening. The latest increase follows a price hike in December, when the cost of a 12kg LPG cylinder was raised by Tk 38 to Tk 1,253.

As a result, LPG prices have gone up by around Tk 91 per cylinder within just one month.

However, consumers often have to pay more than the prices fixed by BERC at retail level. For several days, LPG has not been available in many areas at officially set prices.
