“We will always be at the forefront when it comes to giving blood, but when it comes to power, you won’t find us anywhere.” said Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organiser of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (Southern Region) on his fb page. He made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook account on Saturday. In the post, he added, “So far, the only visible reform in this country is what you see in this picture. We will stand first to give blood, but regarding power, you won’t find us. I repeat—won’t find us.”
The post included a collage of two images. One shows Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, at the start of his tenure posing with Nahid Islam, Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah, and other coordinators. The other shows him at the July Charter signing ceremony, standing with leaders of political parties in a smiling pose.
Earlier, NCP announced that it would not participate in the July Charter signing event. The announcement was made late Thursday night in NCP’s official media group on Facebook.
NCP Media Secretary Mushfiq Us Salehin wrote at 2:04 AM, NCP will not participate in the July Charter signing event.” The statement added that NCP believes the ceremony lacks legal basis and is purely ceremonial. The party has repeatedly stressed the need for a proper legal framework, warning that without it, such events would turn into unilateral documents like the July Declaration.
Referring to the extension of the National Unity Commission’s term, the message stated that NCP will participate in subsequent processes to assert its position and will join the signing procedure only after its demands are met.
