CA-BNP 2nd meet tomorrow

Staff Correspondent: The interim government Chief Adviser, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has invited Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for a second round of discussions, scheduled to take place on Monday.

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed confirmed the development during a discussion event in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon. He noted that while the government is continuing formal talks with various political parties, no tangible progress has yet been made. “Talks are being held, but no real outcomes are visible. To restore public trust, symbolic gestures won’t suffice—practical steps are needed,” said Salahuddin.

He also warned against unilateral constitutional reforms by the newly formed Constitution Reform Commission, stating that any changes must have national consensus. “Imposing reforms by force is not democracy; it would be another form of one-party rule,” he added, referencing the historical BAKSAL system.Reiterating the BNP’s position, Salahuddin emphasized the need for elections under a neutral government and dismissed any rationale for delaying the polls beyond December. “If the government has a valid reason for holding elections after December, it should present it publicly,” he said.

The upcoming meeting is expected to address pressing political concerns, including election timelines, governance structure, and the framework for constitutional reform.
