Amidst the storm of criticism on social media over Egypt's allegations, Spain's young defender Pau Kubersi has stood by Argentina. The controversy surrounding Argentina's match, which defeated Egypt in the last 16 to reach the quarter-finals, is still ongoing.
"I think everything was legal. In the end I saw that the foul was clear because of the stamp and I didn't see anything that was very controversial," Kuberci told Marca radio.
The controversy was sparked by Egypt's disallowed goal, and the Barcelona centre-back has openly expressed his opinion on the matter.
Kuberci is confident in his team's ability ahead of the quarter-final against Belgium. "Our defense is very good, but the forwards and midfielders also help us defend and make the job easier. Our goal is to win the World Cup and we will move towards that goal," he said.
He then said that he imagined the moment of winning the title.
Kuberci did not give much importance to the draw with Cape Verde in the group stage. He trusted in the team's overall improvement. Because that would mean we would be in the final and closer to the title. And if it were against Messi, who is one of my idols, that would be extraordinary. But I have to be 100% focused because you never know where things will turn out," he said.
