Tk 199-crore planned for beautification and modernization of Baitul Mukarram

Staff Reporter

Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain on Sunday announced a Tk 199-crore project aimed at beautification and modernization of the national mosque, Baitul Mukarram.

Speaking at a briefing at Baitul Mukarram auditorium of Islamic Foundation, he said the project is the largest initiative undertaken to enhance the mosque.

The plan includes modernizing and beautifying the mosque’s interiors while preserving its main structure, installing advanced sanitation facilities, covering the outer areas and constructing an office building and minaret alongside other development works.

Dr. Khalid Hossain said, “We hope to begin work on this project as soon as possible, Inshallah. The government, through Ministry of Religious Affairs, is committed to ensuring a suitable environment for worship at the mosque.”

He urged everyone to cooperate and provide suggestions, especially emphasizing the importance of maintaining cleanliness and proper etiquette within the mosque premises.

He added, “We should not litter; dustbins should be used. We must take personal responsibility for using ablution areas and toilets carefully to keep them clean for others.”
