Foreign Affairs Minister (FM) Khalilur Rahman on Monday outlined the new government's approach to international relations, emphasizing that Bangladesh under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman seeks to develop partnerships with foreign nations on equal footing and mutual benefit.
Speaking to reporters at the ministry following separate meetings with several European diplomats and the United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, the minister said friendly nations have expressed strong interest in working closely with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led government, which assumed office on February 17.
"We are sharing our foreign policy outline with Bangladesh First being its motto as we have begun meeting with foreign diplomats. We want to build mutually beneficial relations with foreign countries as co-equals," said the Foreign Minister, a former diplomat who previously served as national security adviser under the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus.
Khalilur Rahman emphasized that Bangladesh would address bilateral issues based on mutual interests while adhering to the principles of non-interference in internal affairs and respecting the freedom and sovereignty of all nations.
The minister noted that diplomats from Saudi Arabia, China, India and Pakistan also paid courtesy calls on him on Sunday, reflecting the international community's engagement with the new administration.
He expressed confidence that his government would establish a dynamic foreign policy that upholds national dignity and advances the country's interests on the global stage.PT/ra
