Government will begin blocking any website, news portal, mobile app or online media outlet found promoting or advertising gambling, betting, or pornography; without issuing any prior notice. The directive follows increasing concern over the spread of such content across digital platforms, including online newspapers, social media, mobile applications and electronic media. Authorities have cited violations of the Cyber Security Act 2025 and the Pornography Control Act 2012, both of which classify such activities as punishable offences.
Despite prior government warnings through press releases and official notices, some platforms have continued to publish or display promotional content related to online gambling and adult content.
In response, several news portals have already revised their Google AdSense policies to comply with the government's instructions. The government has acknowledged and thanked these organizations for their cooperation.
The Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology emphasized that ensuring a safe, ethical and youth-friendly cyberspace remains a top priority. Strict measures will continue to be enforced in this regard.
Multiple government agencies; including Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC), National Security Intelligence (NSI) and Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), are working jointly to monitor and act against such digital violations.
These details were shared in an official statement issued on Saturday by Muhammad Jashim Uddin, Public Relations Officer at Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.
