MPO teachers are at Shahbagh

Staff Reporter

Teachers and employees of MPO-listed private educational institutions have taken position at Shahbagh, breaking police barricade, halting traffic around the area. The protesting teachers and staff, carrying national flags and placards, went to Shahbagh from Central Shaheed Minar with a big procession.

Police tried to stop them when the procession reached near National Musium, but the protesters broke the barricade. They chated slogas, ''Beton Niye Talbahana, Cholbe Na Cholbe Na; Ami K, Tumi K, Shikkhok Shikkhok, Proggapon Dite Hobe.''

Their demands are a 20% house rent allowance (minimum Tk 3,000) based on basic salary, Tk 1,500 as medical allowance for both teachers and staff, and 75 per cent of the basic salary as festival allowance for staff. The MPO-affiliated teachers and employees, under the banner of the Education Nationalisation Aspiration Alliance, have started demonstration on Sunday.
