Anti-liberation forces not safe for the country: Mirza Fakhrul

Staff Reporter

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said the country is not safe in the hands of forces that opposed the Liberation War, asserting that such groups cannot be trusted with governing the nation.

He made the remarks while addressing an election campaign rally at Paschim Akcha area of Thakurgaon-1 constituency on Saturday morning.

“They did not support the Liberation War in 1971. Many people were killed and the honour of mothers and sisters was violated. Even today, they have not apologised for those actions,” he said.

The BNP leader also cautioned voters against what he described as misleading tactics during the election campaign.

“Do not share your bKash numbers with anyone. Some are spreading false claims that voting for them will ensure a place in heaven. These claims are untrue,” he said, adding that the upcoming election would allow people to determine the country’s future through their votes.

Mirza Fakhrul alleged that the country has suffered severe damage over the past 15 to 16 years, claiming that banks had been drained and large sums of money siphoned off.

“These issues must be addressed. Without quarrels or conflict, the right people must be elected,” he said.

He said BNP politics focuses on development, peace and public welfare, adding that the party and its supporters had endured difficult times over the past 15 years.

“Now a hopeful time has arrived. There is a possibility of a fair election where everyone will be able to vote,” he said.

Addressing voters in his constituency, Mirza Fakhrul highlighted his long association with the area and recalled his father’s contributions to local development.

“I have served as a minister and no one can say that I unlawfully took even a cup of tea. I am contesting this election as the party candidate and have come to seek your votes. The symbol is sheaf of paddy. This will be my last election, so please give me the opportunity to serve,” he said.

Outlining BNP’s election pledges, Mirza Fakhrul said that if the party comes to power, agricultural loans of up to Tk10,000, including interest, would be waived.

He added that the government would take responsibility for NGO loans, while loans taken by women would be written off.

He also announced plans to issue family cards to women and agriculture cards to farmers, along with creating employment opportunities for one crore educated unemployed people within 18 months.

“Peace and discipline will be restored, and people of all religions will be able to live together peacefully,” he added.
