A court in Dhaka on Monday issued arrest warrants against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 40 others in connection with two separate murder cases filed during the July protests in Mohammadpur.
The cases involved in the killings of truck driver Md Hossain and CNG autorickshaw driver Sabuj.
Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam accepted the chargesheets submitted in both cases and issued the warrants, noting that 41 of the 64 accused listed in the police reports are currently absconding.
Prosecutors Harun-or-Rashid and Kaiyum Hossain Noyon represented the state during the hearing.
Hasina, who is currently in India, is accused in both cases. She has been registered as an “absconding” suspect in both.
Apart from Hasina, Awami League General Secretary and former road transport minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, former minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan, and leaders Asif Ahmed, Tarequzzaman Rajib, Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, Nur Mohammad Sentu are among the accused.
