A clash ensued between higher secondary level students of Dhaka College and Ideal College in the capital's Science Lab area.
Around 11:30AM on Thursday, the two groups locked into a clash, forcing the vehicles to halt movement in that area. As a result, vehicular movement on the New Market section of Mirpur Road, adjacent to Science Lab, has come to a complete halt.
A large number of police personnel positioned in the middle of the road at the Science Lab intersection. The higher secondary students of Dhaka College are occupying the New Market section of Mirpur Road, while Ideal College students are taking position along the Green Road section.
The cause of the renewed clash between the students from the two institutions could not be immediately determined.
During the clashes, students were seen hurling bricks and stones at police, prompting the law enforcers to fire tear gas to bring the situation under control.
Police are working to keep both sides calm and restore normalcy to the situation.
