Army recovered weapons from a secret hideout of UPDF

Staff Reporter

The Bangladesh Army has uncovered a secret hideout of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) in the dense forests of Yubneshwar Para in Panchhari Upazila, Khagrachhari district, based on precise intelligence.

A special commando team conducted the operation early Monday morning around 5 am. According to the army, the UPDF’s top group commander, Suman Chakma, fled upon detecting the soldiers’ presence. During a subsequent search, authorities recovered a pistol, a magazine, two rounds of ammunition, 15 banners, two walkie-talkie chargers, two mobile phones, sharp weapons, and other equipment used by UPDF armed members.

Reports indicate that during the operation, UPDF members coerced local men, women, and students to chant anti-army slogans in an attempt to disrupt the mission. The army stated that recent incidents show the UPDF and its affiliated groups are deliberately involving local women and school-going children in subversive activities aimed at destabilizing the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

Operations to locate the fleeing armed UPDF members are ongoing across the region to ensure public safety. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) emphasized that the army remains committed to taking necessary measures to safeguard national sovereignty and protect all ethnic communities in the area.
