Staff Reporter

Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho and a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8, is undergoing emergency surgery after being shot earlier on Friday. Doctors have confirmed that a bullet is still lodged inside his head. Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Director Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman shared the latest update on Friday afternoon, saying Hadi was taken into the operation theatre for urgent surgical intervention. “There is a bullet inside his head. Surgery is currently underway,” the DMCH director said.

Hadi was shot in the Box Culvert area of Bijoynagar. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in severely injured condition.

Md Rafi, who was in the rickshaw behind Hadi at the time, described the incident. He said, “After Juma prayers, we were heading toward the High Court. We were in rickshaws. As soon as we reached Bijoynagar, two men on a motorcycle approached and opened fire on Hadi bhai and fled. I was in the rickshaw behind him.”

Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus expressed deep concern over the shooting that left Osman Hadi critically injured. He also issued strict instructions to law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift and thorough investigation and identify all those involved in the attack and bring them under the law.
