Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman said army is gradually returning to their barracks as the overall situation has now stabilised.
Speaking as the chief guest at the closing and prize-giving ceremony of Bangladesh Army Firing Competition-2026 at Cumilla Cantonment, the army chief said the military had carried out its duties in the field in response to the country’s needs during a difficult time. He said the nation would remember the role played by the armed forces with gratitude during that challenging period.
Congratulating the champion and runner-up teams of the competition, Waker-Uz-Zaman praised the professionalism and shooting skills displayed by army personnel despite serving continuously in field duties for the past 18 months.
The firing competition began on May 16 under the overall supervision of the Headquarters of the 33 Infantry Division.
A total of 17 teams from various army formations, logistics areas, five independent brigades and the Para Commando Brigade took part in the event.
Senior military officials, including the Master General of the Ordnance (MGO), the Commandant of Bangladesh Ordnance Factory, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 33 Infantry Division and Area Commander of Cumilla Area, the GOC of the 17 Infantry Division and Area Commander of Sylhet Area, along with senior officers from Army Headquarters, members of different ranks and representatives from various media outlets, were present at the event.
