EC bars all institutional election before National Pool

Desk Report

The Election Commission (EC) has issued a gazette notification directing all professional and other organisations to refrain from holding elections until 12 February.

The directive aims to ensure that the 13th parliamentary election and the referendum remain free, fair, and uninfluenced.

The gazette was signed on Monday by Mohammad Manir Hossain, deputy secretary of Election Management-2 of the EC.

EC asked to halt all elections of the professional organisations, all types of elections in educational institutions, transport owners’ and workers’ associations, journalists’ associations, business associations (Chamber of Commerce), cooperative societies, trade unions, and all other registered or unregistered organisations, the gazette stated.

It further states that any elections for the mentioned organisations must be arranged after 12 February.
